The ivory dress that flew over Marilyn Monroes head was one of the most iconic dresses ever! Even her wax figures were modeled having that pose. Replicas of the dress were made too! By now, the original ivory dress is quite a collectors item already. In fact, it was recently auctioned in Hollywood and it was able to fetch $4.6 million or £2.8 million!

The amount that it sold for was more than what the owner expected. The estimate was only around $1 to $2 million. The identity of bidder who got Marilyn Monroes ivory dress was not disclosed as well as those who got the other items.

Prior to the auction, the dress was owned by actress Debbie Reynolds who collected movie costumes for around 40 years! The Marilyn Monroe dress was just one of the pieces she collected. She hoped that it would one day be displayed in a museum. But due to lack of funds, she was forced to auction them.

Other iconic pieces included in the auction were the Audrey Hepburns costume in My Fair Lady, a headdress worn by Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra, Marilyn Monroes red-sequined dress from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Judy Garlands blue cotton dress from The wizard of Oz, and Mike Myers orange suit in Austin Powers movie.

According to the auction house Profiles in History, the auction got Reynolds a total of $22.8 million! Perhaps thats more than enough to pay off those creditors who are hounding her right now.
